The French Table Tennis Federation (FFTT) is thrilled to announce a historic achievement for the 2023-2024 season. For the first time ever, the number of licensees has surpassed 228,000, marking an impressive 7.5% increase from the previous year.
This remarkable milestone underscores the growing enthusiasm for table tennis across all age groups and skill levels, whether in recreational or competitive settings. The surge in participation reflects a broader trend of increasing engagement with the sport throughout France.
This unprecedented success is attributed to the tireless efforts of volunteers, managers, employees, coaches, referees, as well as the numerous clubs, committees, and leagues that are dedicated to making table tennis a vibrant and accessible sport.
Gilles Erb, President of the FFTT, expressed his satisfaction with the record-breaking numbers.
I am very pleased to see that the growing enthusiasm for table tennis is reflected in a record number of FFTT members, even before the Olympic Games in Paris this summer! The desire for Ping will undoubtedly be even stronger in September. By crossing the 225,000 member mark, we are strengthening the place of table tennis in the sporting landscape.
Erb highlighted that this achievement is a result of several factors, including the sporting successes of French teams, an updated and modern image of the sport thanks to effective communication, and a diversified sporting offer that caters to various ways of playing table tennis. He also emphasized the crucial role of clubs, committees, and leagues in meeting the evolving expectations of the French public.
The FFTT extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to this success. The dedication and passion of all involved have played a vital role in reaching this symbolic milestone and elevating the profile of table tennis in France.
As the FFTT looks towards the upcoming season, the federation remains committed to fostering the growth of the sport and continuing to engage new players. The future of table tennis in France is brighter than ever, and the FFTT is excited to build on this momentum as we approach the Olympic Games in Paris and beyond.
